The Rubenstein Library holds large collections of comics fanzines and zines by women and girls, including the Edwin and Terry Murray Fanzine Collection and the zine collections of the Sallie Bingham Center for Women's History and Culture. Even a collection of shortboxes on metal shelves doesn't have to be a boring part of a room. Since the 1990s, mergers resulted in fewer large publishers, while smaller publishers proliferated. Even though comic books are enormously popular, in general, many people tend to see them as a "lower" art form, in part because they assume that they are largely designed for children or have simple themes.
